Lotus Domino on Ubuntu Server Linux - convince IBM to add Ubuntu as certified system!
We discussed our Linux server strategy recently, and my collegue Sascha mentioned the relative high subscription cost for SuSE Enterprise Linux compared to Windows. Furthermore, he asked if Lotus Domino is supported on CentOS or Ubuntu Server Linux.
Unfortunately, both are not supported. Ubuntu is only supported as client system, not for the server. There are some other partners in the Design Partner Forum who asked after that, but IBM didn't show any movement in that area yet. On the other hand, it would be very nice to have Lotus Domino supported on a free Linux platform like Ubuntu, with guaranteed updates, without the hazzle of subscription fees, accounts and so on. We have a couple of customers who would like that a lot. After all, Lotus Domino 8.5 is about reducing the TCO, and running on an OS without expensive subscription fees IS reducing the TCO. So, if you're with me, please contact your local IBM contact and ask him for Ubuntu server support for Lotus Domino. Ask the IBMers at Lotusphere. Make sure IBM notice that there are requests for that, and that customers want it.
