Opening times of car dealers - how is it in your country? (why german car dealers doesn’t want to sell anything...)

My car's leasing runs out at the end of this year, therefore I have to look out for a new car.
Since I'm working hard and most of the time, I don't have time for this during the week. So, today (Saturday) I took my family to a sweep through car dealers in my parent's city (Kiel, Germany, about 200.000 inhabitants). We started late and arrived at the first dealer (Peugeot) at about 1pm.

And guess what? It was closed. CLOSED!  C L O S E D  !

Off to the next one: Volvo. We arrived shortly before 2pm, and it was barely open (closing time 2pm). Went into the showroom, no one was there, for at least ten minutes. They only had a handful cars, the car I looked for was not there. We left.

Next one, Volkswagen. Again, CLOSED at 1pm.

Next: Mercedes (just for fun, I don't really want to buy one). Showroom was open, but no sales guy anymore, they (again) left at 2pm. All cars locked, only to be watched from the outside.

Last one today: another Volkswagen dealer in the periphery of Kiel. Wow, still open! Again, no sales people anymore, but the showroom was open and all cars were unlocked so that at least we were able to have a closer look to a couple of cars.

So, here is my conclusion and my question to you:
I COULD NOT BELIEVE that all the dealers closed at 1pm or 2pm, or at least all their sales people left. I am working hard, I don't have time during the week. I only have time at the weekend - when should I buy a car if no car dealer is open at Saturday afternoon?!? Shall I have to get up at 8am and press myself to match THEIR schedule? Am I the customer or are they my customer?!?

What it is like in your country?
Are the car dealers in your country better adjusted to customer's needs?
